Y’all. It’s been quite the two weeks. And I know that you don’t want to sit here and read 4 pages of me recounting it all. Or maybe you do. If so, FaceTime me, if not, here’s a list of highlights and lowlights:
I blew up a potato.
At the sponsor event last Thursday, we pulled random questions out of a fishbowl. My question: ‘do you have a hairdresser in Neuchatel?’ My team thinks my hair is ridiculous so they all lost it. The chances.
Played two Chinese teams last weekend. Lost to both in 4. When we were taking pics with the first team after the game, and the girl next to me asks in perfect English, “did you play on the PAC 12 All Star team three years ago?” I did. Apparently we played her. I cannot emphasize enough just how small the volley world is.
Mic and I ate a blood sausages. Not the biggest fan. Too mushy.
Z’s aunt and uncle came to visit last weekend. Brought more Oreos. Oreo’s were gone in 3 days.
I adore my new volley shoes. It’s so nice to have traction again.
Went on a boat tour around Lake Neuchatel. Gorgeous gorgeous GORGEOUS but DAMN IT WAS COLD.
After the boat tour Mic, Z, and I found a café that we have deemed our Central Perk. It’s perfect. I love it. I miss it. I’m going tomorrow
The coaches surprised us with physical testing round 2 last week. That damn beep test, guys. We used chalk instead of mascara to measure our verticals this time. Obviously I got chalk in my eyes and briefly thought I would never see again.
I’ve decided I’m not weighing myself for the rest of the time that I’m here. I’m sick of caring how much I weigh. It’s a shitty way to measure health and I would rather pay attention to how I feel. Just in case you cared.
Dried my hair with the fan in my room before team pictures. Snapchatted it bc I Snapchat everything, Mandy said it was unacceptable and donated a blowdryer to me and Z. Gracias.
Made a new playlist.
Jay and Kim Mansfield had their baby boy last week!! His name is Dylan and he’s perfect.
Got a Smart Car for the week bc our beloved Meghan is being made pretty again. Don’t know how to drive it.
Played 3 matches this weekend. Won all of em. Obviously went to 5 in the last one, bc WHY NOT. My body hurts. My soul hurts. I’m happy.
Got through an entire week without buying groceries. Went to France yesterday bc everything is cheaper there. So much food I couldn’t decide what to eat for breakfast today.
I joined an online book club.
Switzerland has decided to skip Fall this year. We went straight to winter.
Last week, I tried to navigate Mic, Z, and I to Biel to get our first Starbucks since August. Biel is about 25 mins away. I took us to Bern. Which is 45. There is a Starbucks in Bern, so Mic and Z weren’t too upset. Mic tasted her first PSL. And I had my far from first PSL. And a donut.
I think I’m going to pierce my ears whenever I get antsy. Better than a tat, right dad?
Sundays are becoming pizza and wine nights for Mic, Z, Monika, and me. I really enjoy Sundays.
Finally bought myself some nail polish. Forgot nail polish remover.
I’ve gotten Z addicted to Downton Abbey, too. And she’s about to pass me.
Went to one of the smallest countries in the world: Lichtenstein. Population of 37,000.
The video of Trump and Clinton singing, “I Will Always Love You” made me cry laughing. Also watching Mic play ‘Pitch Game’ (one of our warm up games) made me cry laughing. But that also could have been delirious exhaustion too.
Finally got to try Mic’s fried bananas on Sunday bc the last time she made them I went to let the basketball guys into the apartment and Z, Mic, and Monika ate them all. Selfish.
Happy Belated 20th to Catherine Raquel!!! If you haven’t been lucky enough to meet Kitty, she is a lovely lady on the beach team at Stanford. All kinds of good things about her, but her smile is the biggest and most infectious I’ve ever known and everyone should tell her how great she is today/this week.
I started to pin stuff on a wall in my room so if anyone wants to send me postcards/pictures of the US/themselves please do so.
Made rice for dinner tonight. Or so I thought. Turns out it was pasta shaped like rice.
We’re attempting to go to Biel again tomorrow. AND a pumpkin patch that we passed on our way to France on Saturday. Bc every one needs the classic autumnal insta. LAAAAAHV, Bugg P.S. Tell me if this link works: https://vimeo.com/181967012
