Happy Belated Labor Day, everyone. But mostly to Gra and Britt.
Last night I stayed up until 4 am watching amazing/emotional auditions for shows like The Voice and America’s Got Talent. Cried 3 separate times. So.
On Thursday, the #foreigners (Z, Mic, Monica, and me) tried to meet each other at the beach to lay out in between practices. We were unsuccessful in finding each other bc cell service is a luxury we don’t care about enough to pay for. So it was just me and Z and 100 other locals enjoying the lake, Mic and Mon were at some other private beach bc Mic googles a lot. Z is Venezuelan…read: tan. Luckily, she asked that we didn’t stay longer than an hour bc she was concerned about getting tan lines that were too dark…same. We laid out again (this time successfully as a group) the next day and I can officially say I’m def tanner than Avery. Not that I ever wasn’t. I also finally finished the audiobook I downloaded for the plane ride here, The Girl on the Train. I didn’t like it bc it felt really implausible but I don’t really know if that’s bc I kept falling asleep while listening and therefore missing parts of the plot or what. Regardless, if I can fall asleep while the book is going that’s prob a bad sign.
Our captain, Mandy, has a sort of part-time job/school thing during the day. She was cleaning up her desk on Friday and using the compressed air thing to get the dust out of her keyboard and somehow the air hit the flame of the candle on her desk and a fire bomb literally BLEW UP in her face. I immediately thought of Inky blowing up her kitchen. Lol, missing you dude.
Saturday morning we went to Bern(e?) for what might be the longest 48 hours of my life. (Gigi brought everyone the best croissants ever for the drive there and I strategically did not ask where she got them bc I cannot know or I will eat them all the time and be unbelievably overweight.) We practiced for a few hours in the morning, took a cable car to the top of *drumroll please* another mountain!!!!, walked through Berne, took pics of the “Berne bears” (living breathing bears in the middle of the city, idk about that one, Swissland…), drank ICED COFFEE (first time I found it here) on a terrace overlooking the river, had an exclusively blocking focused practice (serious lack of oxygen), swam in a FREEZING COLD river (everyone else seemed to love it but I do not respond well to cold water – however it was gorgeous), and then checked into our hotel that was across from a street food festival. Dinner was without a doubt the highlight of that day. Because I found myself a pulled pork sandwich. And it was friggin good. (I also ate the Venezuelan version of mozzarella sticks and gelato). On Sunday we scrimmaged two other teams for a total of 8 sets, went to watch some of our long lost teammates play on the Swiss National team, and drove home to Neuchatel.
I attempted to do laundry that night but the machine in our apartment is broken. Laundry has proven to be my biggest stressor. Other than driving.
On Monday, we got our lives together: groceries, laundry at Mic’s, etc. Attempted to make some beans/bacon combo in our crockpot, but that was a short-lived dream. Lawlz bc everyone and their mother was like ‘buy a crockpot, it’s so easy to cook with, you just throw food in there and leave it.’ Well, I’m here to announce that you are all liars. It started to smell like something was burning, and then we noticed that the back of our white crockpot was now brown, and when Z went to move it off the counter, the handle fell off. Because the crockpot was melting itself. Yes. The thing melted itself.
The fact that it cost $12 is irrelevant. I wanted beans and bacon.
Z and I hosted our first Taco Tuesday night last night. I made the guac. It was bomb and we literally scraped the bowl and I’ve never felt more domestic. Z made the actual food, which was obviously good but this isn’t about her.
Random things:
I am 5 episodes in to “Stranger Things” and I am getting the feeling this show is going to be like Lost. Super good, but you never really get anywhere. Don’t do this to me Netflix.
We have Friday and Saturday off this weekend and the #foreigners are determined to find out what Neuchatel nightlife is all about. Also we have visitors coming! Nicole Edelman (playing for a team 45 mins away), her teammate, Mic’s bf, and Lexi Dannemiller!
I watched a documentary on Jamie Lynn Spears on Sunday after we got back from Berne. Thoroughly impressed w how she handled her life. Go Jamie Lynn, you have gained a fan.
Meant to do this last week. I want to run a poll on a scenario I face daily: we are in a group setting, everyone is speaking French/German/something not English and everyone starts laughing. Do I stare into space and think about whatever I want and lowkey ignore them? Do I follow the conversation and laugh when everyone laughs despite having no idea wtf is going on? Do I follow the conversation and not laugh bc laughing makes me look psycho/desperate? Is there another course of action I’m not considering?? Asking for a friend.
Fall is coming in hot and I can’t wait for everything autumnal cause I’m BASIC.
Going to get a 3rd bowl of granola/yogurt/fruit/honey before bed.
Love,
- the very sore, very tired, and very happy Bugg
